Post 22 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Thursday, 27-Jan-2005 14:19:29

It was very good, but as Caitlin just said, extremely sad. That and The Grapes of wrath (very sad too) are the only Steinbeck books I actually liked.

Post 23 by jaguar (Addicted to the Zone) on Thursday, 27-Jan-2005 15:45:07

I loved Of Mice and Men too. Yes, it was very sad. Grapes of Wrath was depressing but very poignant and I loved that too, and its movie was equally good. I recently read and enjoyed The Lovely Bones and Cold Mountain.

Post 24 by anglwings303 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 30-Jan-2005 0:12:02

yes, grapes of wrath was extremely sad. My favorite Steinbeck book though would probably have to be East of Eden.

Post 25 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Tuesday, 01-Feb-2005 8:43:47

Haven't read that one yet. Heard it was good though.

Post 26 by jaguar (Addicted to the Zone) on Tuesday, 01-Feb-2005 15:41:30

East Of Eden was very good and so was the mini series with Jane Seymour portraying Kathy.

Ah there are a lot of good books about people getting blind and having problems at first. There's one German book by Jana Frey: "the lost look". It's about a girl who got blind after a car accident and nearly wants to finish her life and wants to hide from her boyfriend because she's scared he doesn'T love her anymore.
This book has a happy end, lol.

My favourite book is called the Education of Little Tree, by Forest Carter, and is a little obscure. The rest of my favourites are pretty mainstream. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Watership Down because it's just too beautiful to ever grow out of, Cloudstreet by Tim Winton, and Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, which I love far beyond it's merit as a book.
